Drop Out Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary

Drop Out, one of the most recognized and popular animated hentai, as been out for 10 years since its release.

Origin

The hentai is primarily based on DropOut (ドロップアウト), a mini-story by the artist Fan no Hitori that was serialized in Comic Unreal vol. 47 magazine published in February 2014.

K.M. Produce, under its EDGE label, released the first episode on February 26, 2016. Its animated adaptation concluded on March 25 of the same year with only two animated episodes.

Story

The Japanese government, aiming to give a purpose to social misfits who failed to enter university, enacted a controversial law. Under this regulation, these individuals are required to perform tasks considered degrading, including sexually satisfying those deemed useful to society.

Thanks to this law, Niimi, an ordinary young man, is given the opportunity to turn Reika — the most popular girl at school whom he admires — into his sex slave.

Reception

Drop Out received an average reception in Japan; however, the opposite happened overseas. Thanks to its BDSM and masochistic story, combined with the appeal of its female protagonists, the series became a major sensation outside Japan.

Despite more than ten years having passed since its release, this hentai remains highly popular, not only among longtime fans of the genre but also among newer generations of viewers.

Trivia

The hentai was animated by Ryuu M `s and directed by Tatsumi.
The hentai is also known as DropOut.
In the original plot, Reika Shichijou is the only female protagonist of Drop Out, while Seika Watarai appears only in the Stampede mini-story.
The exact reason why EDGE decided to add Seika Watarai to the animated adaptation of Drop Out is unknown; however, this decision turned out to be a major success, as it helped the hentai achieve a better reception overseas.
Despite its popularity abroad, Drop Out did not receive a strong reception in Japan.
After EDGE shut down, Coolmic acquired several animated series in 2024, including Drop Out. However, they were unable to obtain the uncensored versions because, according to Coolmic’s statements, K.M.Produce no longer preserves the original uncensored materials of its works.
